Art Exhibitions

This week Taos has two very different but very interesting art exhibitions going on.

The first is the UNM-Taos Spring Arts Exhibition, a wonderful opportunity to view various different types of art created by students studying art at UNM-Taos. Encompassing over 50 different art forms, this show should be a great opportunity to see some up and coming artists from our local community.

The second is the newly overhauled Maria Martinez exhibition at the Millicent Rogers Museum. Maria Martinez was an incredibly influential potter who is credited with "rediscovering" the art of creating the beautiful, "black on black" pottery that is now so identifiable with the San Ildefonso Pueblo. This exhibition will debut on the 28th and be on display permanently.

Both of these exhibitions are only a few minutes drive from the Hacienda del Sol, and will give a real sense of art through different time periods, both modern artistic impressions and more traditional pottery designs.

In addition, the San Ildefonso Pueblo is located just north of Santa Fe, so those driving up to Taos will be in the perfect spot to take in another of New Mexico's famous Pueblo's.

Great food in Taos!

As most of you know, here in Taos, we are blessed with an abundance of great restaurants and chefs.

El Meze, one of those restaurants, is a firm favorite here at the Hacienda del Sol, but one thing I didn't know is that Chef Fred, is a James Beard semi finalist! Check out the article in New Mexico Magazine this month for a wonderful write up of a great chef, who is doing wonderful things here in Taos.

More news on the Taos Restaurant front, is that Lamberts has moved to Bent St and now occupies the old "Apple Tree building". Hopefully they'll have that wonderful garden open through the summer!

With all this good news, I think its time Erika and I stopped working so hard, and head out for dinner. To Lamberts to check out their new location and El Meze to be cooked for by excellent chef!

Back in Taos

Well, Erika and I have returned from a great cross country trip to Miami, FL and return to Taos to find that Spring has hit in full force!

We've still got 2 days of great Spring skiing to enjoy before we pack up our thermals and dig out the summer gear!

Erika's already been out enjoying a wonderful hike around Divisadaro, and is out bike riding today! The weathers just perfect. She's got the life!

I've been checking out the Taos Golf and Country Club, and if you'll pardon the pun, the season is in full swing!

So if you're looking for something to do this weekend, pack everything, skis, snowboards, bikes, hiking boots and your sense of adventure and head up to Taos, staying at the Hacienda del Sol B&B of course!

See you soon,

The team at the Hacienda del Sol.
